The stone path leads you through a grove of trees
planted with hostas and astilbes. In the spring wildflowers like dutchmans
breeches, spring beauties, Jack in the Pulpits and Trilliums brighten this
shaded area.
Soon you are in front of a small pond.
Water trickles
over the small waterfall and frogs trill happily.
Goldfish feed hungrily on mosquito larva and
dragonflies
rest on white and pink waterlily blooms.
The garden behind the pond is in full bloom.
Daisies, foxgloves, iris and phlox colour it white and mauve. Bees fly
from flower to flower collecting nectar and pollen.
Butterflies flutter about like little jewels.
An old birdhouse is home for a pair of nesting wrens. He watches carefully
before entering with a meal for the female sitting quietly on a small clutch
of eggs.
.
You stop here and enjoy a cool drink in the shade
of an old pear tree. Small pears are just starting to form and it will
be a good harvest this year. Beyond, the path continues up a set of rustic
stairs....
