A Fisherman's Wife
I wait so patiently at the edge of the jetty
Looking for signs of his outrigging crossing the bar
The days have been long, the nights longer yet
Now he is coming home, seems like an eternity has passed
The smell of the sea brings back memories
Of the many times I have been here waiting
For his return or for him to leave me again
A few hours at home passes too quickly
We cherish each other and share our lives
Yet in the back of our minds
The boat lingers on
Unloading the catch, repairing the gear
Getting fuel, ice and groceries
Time to leave again is already near
Yes…we both know
Although he is here now
He will soon leave again
To go back on the ocean
~~~ his other home ~~~*
