The Club originally started in October 1976 and is still going reasonably strongly, a although we have had out ups- and downs. Personality clashes over the years have led to members splitting off and forming their own branches.

Until very recently the club owned two boats - a 5.2m Avon inflatable with a 60hp outboard and a 6.25m Osprey Viper with a 115 Yamaha on the back. The inflatable was getting little use in recent years because the type of diving that the branch does is getting more adventurous. The two boats do not really 'pair up' too well either, so the inflatable has just been sold. Diving is mostly along the south coast, and for the first time, in 1998, the RiB was kept in a marina. This let us dive one area consistently throughout the summer, without all the fuss of towing and launching. Unfortunately the weather throughout 1998 was so poor that we hardly used the boat at all!! In defence of the decision though, we did plan to use it more than ever before.

In 1999 the boat was based in the Weymouth area at Budgies yard in Castletown. This gave us a wide range of dive sites to choose from, but more importantly we got a lot of foul weather alternatives. The plan for 2000 is to keep the boat there again - in fact we haven't brought it home over the winter, and we are still diving!!!

Expeditions occur on a regular basis and in 1998 we had trips to both the Scilly Isles, and Scapa Flow. For 1999 a group of divers are going to spent a week exploring the Western Isles of Scotland. Hardboat trips, generally along the South Coast are also regularly organised.

Plans for 2000 currently include a large number of rib diving weekends in Portland, a week's liveaboard in Ireland and the perennial long weekend in the Farne Islands.

The club has some 20 active divers, ranging in experience and ability from pool trainees, to a number of Advanced Divers. We also currently have two OWIs, 2 CIs and a number of very keep ACIs with more in the pipeline.
