ANOTHER FORGOTTEN WARRIOR

They sent me to an unwanted land
to fight a war nobody would understand...
Though many lived and many more died
because the enemy would shoot and hide...
I went back over with one thought in mind
to end the guilt that made me blind...
I would volunteer for suicide missions
with the thought of returning would be my last ambition...
Aircraft shot down in the river one day
they dropped me off and went away...
I hooked up the straps and started to swim
I looked up, the enemy was there again...
They fished me out and took my boots
as they started rowing back to their hooch...
When I returned they pinned a medal on my chest
now it lays in a box with all the rest...
That was one day I should have died as well
as for today I'm just a walking shell...
Though years have passed and no feelings to show
Please Lord take me, I'm ready to go.
