a seaport for the smugglers and fishermen in our ancestory
Towns of Way/Weymark ancestors...
"Oh I do like to be beside the seaside......", is a song which sums up Eastbourne. I`ve never actually lived there but I`ve been to the town on holiday many times, so I feel I am well positioned to comment on it. Located at the foot of the South Downs in Sussex, Eastbourne is a quieter version of it's neighbour Brighton, although there is still plenty to do for young and old alike. The picture below shows a view of most of the town from the footpath up to Beachy Head cliffs. This is where the first reunion of the Waymark's was held in 1996. Hosted by Ken Alderton of Eastbourne and billets provided by Phyllis Miller of Langley (both Waymarks); Canada, Australia, Essex, Sussex (West and East), and Somerset were all represented. Later, I will insert the names of each and which family line they represent. But a huge thanks has to go to Ken Alderton and the Eastbourne family history society who provided Ken with much of the data and resources he required.
