Alia was born on the plains of Algaria. When she was six and her sister, Lanaya was 5, her parents were killed by a Murgo Grolim as they returned from the yearly cattle drive in Muros. The two girls were raised by their clan and became very very close.
When Alia was 21, she married Sitar, a handsome Algar. The two moved from their clan to a neighboring village. Three years after they were wed, Lanaya was killed by a woman she was trying to save. Alia arrived on the scene to late to save her sister, and fell into a deep depression.
Sitar took Alia to Riva to try and help her brake out of the depression, and then himself went to try and avenge Lanaya’s death. As he was traveling, he was murdered by a magic user, although it was not known if this woman had been a Grolim or not.
Alia, having nothing left to live for, began on her life’s journey to seek out her sister’s and husband’s murderer and seek vengeance. It was on this journey, that she met up with Adara and several others who were on a quest. She decided to join them hoping that maybe she could at least be of help to Adara.
While on the adventure she found the woman who had killed her sister. She was Jaleel, Black Aes Sedai who worked for Ka. Alia immediately attacked, determined to kill the woman, but she didn’t know that Jaleel had magical powers and was beaten back and almost killed. She survived, but not without making an enemy. In their next meeting, Jaleel captured Alia and turned her into her slave, figuring that to be a worse torture than death.
While under Jaleel’s control, Jaleel had put a necklace around Alia that forced her to do what she wanted, she was forced to kill what she thought was her best friend Adara. But it was a trick. Through mind games, the baddies slowly gained control of Alia till she began to believe that she was evil as well and belonged there.
To prove herself to Ka and Lady Rose, Alia killed Gehrig, a man who had once been her friend and was Belgeran’s best friend. Her heart continued to grow cold she again betrayed her old friends by telling all the information she knew about the island Riva.
Jaleel eventually tired of having Alia as a slave and gave her over to her warder Lordct, as a present. He then took her on as his student and began to train her as a Dagashi assassin.
During the Battle of Rak Zemlya, Alia was captured by Lace, Gehrig’s sister. Lace brought her to Belgeran for questioning and then was going to kill her. Alia managed to escape and in the process was able to take the Rivan General as her prisoner. When she returned to Rak Zemlya she offered the prisoner to KA, who had recently obtained goddesshood, as a gift and asked to be allowed to serve her. KA accepted Alia and gave her the gift of the Will and the Word and made her a Grolim. Alia then sacrificed the general to KA to seal her allegiance to the new Goddess.
