Descendants of JEFFREY FERRIS

Generation No. 1

Information regarding JEFFREY FERRIS is varied and mostly unsubstantiated, after 400 years and little remaining documentation; however, I will provide what I have found so far. If and when I find documentation to support his birth, etc., I will gladly make the changes here.

JAMES FERRIS was born, possibly in Leichestershire, England, about 1610 and came to the Colonies in 1634. The Daughters of the American Revolution have different dates as to his birth and arrival here. They show he married (1) SUSANNAH LOCKWOOD, who died in 1660; married (2) MATHAIS ST. JOHN, who died in 1669. The DAR also state that JEFFREY died in 1666. His will is listed in Fairfield, Connecticut Probate Book from 1665 - 1675, Page 20.

JOSEPH FERRIS (JEFFREY) was born, either June 20, 1635 in Watertown, Massachusetts, or, September 20, 1638, Greenwich, Connecticut. On November 20, 1657, he married RUTH KNAPP, who was born January 06, 1641 in Watertown, Massachusetts and died after 1711. She was the daughter of NICHOLAS KNAPP and ELEANOR DISBROW LOCKWOOD.

Between 1774 and 1775, he married RUTH MEADE, who was born March 28, 1757, Dutchess County, New York, and died October 27, 1827, Milo, New York. RUTH was the daughter of LT. JONATHAN MEADE and SARAH THOMPSON.

He married DOROTHY LAURA WOODARD December 25, 1943 in Long Beach, Los Angeles County, California, daughter of ROBERT WOODARD and GRACE DENSMORE. Walter and Dorothy are buried in Scenic Hills Memorial Park, Ashland, Oregon.
