Samhain is a sacred time of year to sit back and contemplate the previous year's actions and decisions. This is my online "journal" of sorts where I will record my Samhain experiences and celebrations.

I just picked up a copy of Silver RavenWolf's Halloween
today. Yea! I can hardly wait to sit down and read it!

Having read the book above, I was tickled pink about how
Ms. RavenWolf presented the history of such a beloved holiday. I've
always enjoyed Halloween, and can remember all sorts of fun traditions my
family had. I'm a little disappointed with today's society
though. I mean, when I was younger, we got to dress up in costumes for
school and have little parties in class at the end of the day. Now,
our children can't do diddly squat for the holidays. What a rip-off.
I think in our fervor to have our religion acknowledged by enforcing the
whole separation of church and state notion, we may have robbed our children
of something special, of a connection of memories and traditions. I'm
saddened that my little boy will never be able to dress up for school, or
make papier-mâché Santa boots in Kindergarten for me.

This year, I got to dress up for a costume contest at
school. I went as a medieval lady (though some of my classmates
decided I looked more like a bar wench to them) and won a prize for
"Best Goth Costume". *Sigh* Sometimes I wonder about
my classmates. I dressed up my son as Tigger (he looked so
cute!!) and we went trick or treating around the neighborhood.
We also went to my Grandmother's house to visit and take pictures.

I had a nice little private ritual last night after I put
the kid to bed. Kind of a memorial ritual if you will. I let go
and grieved the death of a very close friend of mine. I've been
allowing anger and bitterness to cloud my memories of him, so I
finally decided it was time to cleanse the wound and let him go.
