Picked up Dorothy Morrison's Yule today. I'm
not really fond of how it's written, but it is highly informative. I
don't know, I guess there's just too much information on Christmas, and even
though I know it was originally a pagan holiday, I'm looking for more
information on the lore. Less Santa and Baby Jesus and more of
whatever I guess. Oh well.

Today was the last day of Fall Quarter. I organized
our class potluck. I must say, a smashing success. We had to
call it our "Winter Banquet" so as not to offend those in my class
of Jewish, Christian, Pagan, Muslim or whatever faiths everyone believes
in. I had to smack a couple of guys' hands though. They wouldn't
leave the deviled eggs alone. The funniest thing was one of my
classmates brought in a loaf of "Stollen" bread (it's Scandinavian)
and after asking him what he brought, he told me he wasn't sure. So I
checked and happily announced "It's Stollen!!" He responded
without missing a beat "No, I'm pretty sure my wife paid for it before
leaving the store!" Ha! It was great. We all had a
good time. Yea no school until January 6!

I'm having a private ritual to honor the Winter Solstice
tonight.

We went to I guess I can call her my Aunt-in-Law's house
this evening. It's a new tradition in my life now. We've gone
their every year for Christmas Eve dinner since 1998. I love her
husband's ham. Delicious! They have this huge blue mastiff dog,
and my son has never seen a dog that big before. His eyes got as big
as saucers and he announced to the family "hosey-dog!"
Lol. It was funny.

This is the most bizarre Christmas I've ever had.
My Grandmother took off to well, we'll just keep that one out of this, but
anyway, she left me in charge of the ham. I have never done the
ham before. Heck, I've never even prepared ham before. Anyway,
flash-forward about 4 hours, the hams almost done, and the rest of dinner
still hasn't even been tackled. My Grams hasn't made it back yet
either. No one knew what to do, and just as we started to fear the
concept of ham sandwiches for Christmas dinner, my Grams came home and
managed to whip up Christmas dinner in a half hour. Yea!
Christmas is saved!!
