Enumclaw Lodge 738 readies for holidays

DOROTHY SLEIGH
Lodge 738 Recording Secretary

ENUMCLAW, Wash. - Labor Day weekend found a number of Lodge 738 members in Roslyn for the dedication of a life-size memorial statue of a coal miner celebrating the town's 100th anniversary. Miners who lost their lives in the mines in that area were all listed on the plaque.

Claire Layman, granddaughter of this writer, drove a horse and buggy in the parade dressed as a pioneer lady. Everyone enjoyed the festivities.

Octoberfest was a grand time for our Lodge. Some 35 members and guests enjoyed a delicious dinner catered by "Lillian." The afternoon was spent visiting and dancing to the music provided by four accordionists, a tuba and a piano player. Fun was had by all. The young even taught the old the new Macarena dance.

The Lodge's Christmas party will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 1, at the VFW Hall in Enumclaw. The event will include a potluck dinner, music, dancing and, of course, Santa. Members are asked to bring gifts for their children for Santa to distribute.

Our regrets to Lodge President John Paul Alkire who resigned in October due to his job commitment. We hope to see him and Ellie when they can make it as they have been dedicated to our Lodge.

Happy holidays to all SNPJ Lodges throughout the country.
