Fall and winter keep Lodge 738 members busy

ENUMCLAW, Wash. - The autumn season has been a busy time for Lodge 738 members. Sis. Frances Potocnik, accompanied by Dorothy and Deryl Sleigh, celebrated her 85th birthday on Oct. 8 in Branson, Mo. Performers acknowledged Fran at 13 wonderful and entertaining stage shows during the week. It seems that everone who visited Branson at that time knew it was her birthday.

Planning the year's activities was the prime subject for our October meeting. Surprises are certainly in store for our lucky members.

Many individuals contributed to our Make A Difference Day project, and these people are to be genuinely thanked for making an impact on many lives in the surrounding communities:

Sylvia Manowski visited the elderly; Larry Petrowski played his accordion at the convalescent homes in his area; Mary Bradovich works year 'round with St. Vincent DePaul in Auburn, Wash.; Dorothy Sleigh distributes Communion at the Franciscan Health Care Center in Enumclaw and to several homebound elderly on a weekly basis (each first Friday she assists Fr. Gary with Mass at the nursing home).

Annette Johnson heads up the Funeral Committee at Enumclaw Sacred Heart Church, coordinating all the funeral luncheons held inthe church hall. Fran Potocnik, Dorothy and Deryl Sleigh made enough strudel to feed 200 people and donated them for the Octoberfest at Sacred Heart Church.

Kathy and Curt Vogel, Annette Johnson, Fran Potocnik, Mary and Mike Bradovich and the Sleighs made additional strudel the following week. Some was distributed to elderly shut-ins. What a joy to hear them say, "I remember when my mother used to make this," or "I haven't had any of this since I left home."

With 22 Lodge members in attendance, our November meeting started off on a trot, a "turkey trot," that is. Organized by Dorothy Sleigh, the turkey trot was patterned after the old, familiar cake walk.

The winners of the two family-sized gobblers were Mike Bradovich and Tony Mylnar; 10 other "super surprises" were snatched up by members camping on a lucky number.

Everyone enjoyed a delicious turkey dinner with all the trimmings supplied by the Lodge. Melodic Slovenian music for the enjoyment of everyone was played by Tony Mylnar, Larry Petrowski and Mike Evanick. It was great!
