Auburn Lodge welcomes Slovenian visitor at picnic

by MICKEY BREZNIKAR

AUBURN, Wash. – We held our annual picnic Aug. 17 at Lake Twelve near Black Diamond, Wash.  We had a perfect day weatherwise, and good attendance from both Lodge 11 and Lodge 738.  We enjoyed the presence of Tina Dular from Slovenia.  Several of our members showed her the highlights of our Northwest area.  They went to the Black Diamond Museum and the articles pertaining to the coal mining that was the main industry in the early years.  They also visited the Black Diamond Bakery that still bakes bread in wood-fired ovens.  They opened in the early 1900's.

We always enjoy our Lodge activities with members from both Lodges.  We had accordion music at our picnic by Frank Hren, Dick Srok and Gary Gorsha.  We look forward to our picnic in 2004, our 100th year.  Our Lodge was chartered in Roslyn, Wash., Aug. 1, 1904.
