Thomas Zumek, Sr. of Black Diamond, WA, died July 10, 2002 at his home at 80 years of age.
Born July 22, 1921 in Sommerset, CO, moved to Black Diamond in 1926 and was a lifetime resident of the area. He owned and operated Zumeks Grocery in Black Diamond for 25 years along with his brothers. He served in the Army during WWII and was the Fire Chief in Black Diamond for 21 years. He also served as President and Vice President of Mt. Rainier Lodge #738 of the SNPJ (Slovenian National Benefit Society).
He is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Georgia Mae Zumek (April 26, 2002), sister Francis Schoning, brothers Louis Zumek and Frank Zumek.
He is survived by his brother Joseph (Eileen) Zumek of Lake Sawyer, WA; daughter Sandra (Arlyn) Sonsteng of Enumclaw, WA; sons, Thomas, Jr. (Angie) Zumek of Puyallup, WA; Rick Zumek of Black Diamond, WA; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
An inurnment service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2002 at the Black Diamond Cemetary. Reception will follow at the Black Diamond Eagles Lodge.
Memorials may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or charity of the donor's choice.
