I stayed two nights at the campground on the Rhine in St. Goar. Very touristy but a nice town. On the way to St. Goar I had bumped into a German guy named Peter on his bike. He was doing a two day ride from his home in Bonn to Mainz for a party. Thanks to him I was able to find the campground right on the river.
Later in the day I bumped into a guy named Richard on his bike. I told him I was going towards the Rhine and going to be staying at the campground near Remagen. He told me to follow him and guided me the next 30km down a bike path I would never have found that took me right to the campground. This shot was taken about 500m before we got to the Rhine.

The crossing into Germany along the bike path. Nothing but a small sign. The weather and landscape were drab but I had a good tail wind going so everything in the world was good.
If a lot of these shots look a little bad, I took them while I was moving.

About an hour after crossing into Germany. I'm about 10km NW of Aachen where I would stay with my friend Ingo. We had done some bike touring together in '97 in Ireland. These are tank barricades just outside Aachen. I got into Aachen just as it started to downpour and thunder for about an hour while I waited under a monument. After it stopped, Ingo pulled up on his bike to guide me to his apartment.
Korneli-Munster; about 12 km SE of Aachen. There is a great bike path that goes from SE Aachen to Korneli-Munster.
About 10km past Korneli-Munster; This was a great bike path but I saw no other bikers on it. That night I stayed at a campground just west of Nideggen which is between Aachen and the Rhine. It was the middle of the week so the place was pretty empty. I put my tent right by the river and I had a great view of the huge hill I would have to climb in the morning to get up to Nideggen and continue east.
The next day near the town of Sinzenich. The roads were great for riding. Cars were very good about leaving me a lot of room.
The next day riding along the Rhine there was a nasty head wind until about noon then it quieted down.
I couldn't find any information about this tower. It was on the west side of the Rhine in the town of Oberwesel.
