Rod Building

Here are a few pictures of my latest outdoor hobby, rod building. I enjoy making the tools and fixtures for a new hobby almost as much as the hobby itself! So far I've built flyrods, spinning rods, and casting rods, mostly for steelhead and salmon fishing.

Rod Wrapping Jig and Dryer

Here's a simple wrapping jig and rod finishing dryer I built.

Dryer in Use

Here is the dryer in use. It's used to slowly rotate the rod after finish has been applied to the thread wraps, to prevent sags or drips in the epoxy finish.

Finished Flyrod

Here's a finished Product...an 8 weight G. Loomis flyrod, built for Steelhead fishing. This is a 9 foot, fast action rod, assembled with titanium single foot guides, a Struble up-locking reelseat with a curly maple insert, detachable fighting butt, and high quality cork grip.
