A cold winter morning in Tokyo...
A chilly breeze passes through the room as Himura Kenshin sat up in his futon. He stared towards the closed down and listened to the sounds outside. 'It's calling me... it's time... to go.' He slowly turned to his side where his wife and child were sleeping. Kenji was wide awake, smiling up at him. The little imitation of himself reached out and touched his hand. Kenshin smiled warmly at the boy, and then drew away.
Never knew I could feel like this
Like I've never seen the sky before
Pulling the door open, he gazed out at the misty road that awaited him. Frightened out of his wits, he turned back to his loved ones. He then leaned down and brushed a gentle kiss on Kaoru's lips. But, she didn't respoind and continued to sleep soundly. From her touch, Kenshin couldn't help but start to feel at ease.

He then took her soft hand resting on the blanket and held it against his pounding chest.

Kenshin put on his traveling clothes and picked up his sack of supplies, heading out the door. He stopped and looked back one last time at his family.

Turning away, he walked out the room, slipping on his sandals. Taking a deep breath, he prepared to go, but stopped to realize that Kaoru was standing in the doorway. "Oro?" She laughed at him and held out his sakabatou, which he had forgotten. Kenshin slowly smiled and went to retrieve his sword.
Kaoru, her hair down and flowing in the wind, looked on at her husband with strong emotions, but tried to hold it in. Clutching at her lavender robe, she gave him a brave smile.

Kenshin dropped his sack while Kaoru rushed out to him, taking his hands. The two of them can't help but laugh at themselves for their nervousness.
Suddenly my life doesn't seem such a waste
Kaoru pressed a kiss on his scarred cheek, then turned to whisper a sweet word or two into his ear.
It all revolves around you
The two hug each other tightly, taking in as much as they could from each other. Heartbeats in unison, the scenery behind them disappeared and all what they could see before them was the one they loved in their arms, tearfully hanging on.

Kenshin loosened his strong hold and brushed the hair from her eyes, gazing into the deep blue that always gave him courage. He could see his own reflection staring back at him.

Kaoru cupped his face with both hands, looking as cheerful and optimistic as she could possibly be.

Reading each other's mind, they felt the storm of emotions rising in each other them.

As Kenshin drew back and started to move away, Kaoru tearfully reached out to him. Slowly she lowered hand and stared at the back of his departing red head.
Suddenly the world seems such a perfect place...
Kenshin suddenly stopped at the gate. He turned around, still reluctant to go. Kaoru broke into a run and rushed to him, throwing her arms around his neck.

"Onegai," she whispered into his shoulder. Kenshin silently nodded, burying his face into her hair. The two of them start to break away one more time, this time for good.

Kaoru watched with a heavy heart as Kenshin slowly walked through the gate and further and further away, yet never taking his eyes off her. Finally, he became too far away, that they couldn't see each other anymore. Kaoru turned to her side where Yahiko now stood, holding Kenji.
"Kaoru..." the young man uttered, looking a bit concerned for his sensei, "It will be all right."
Kaoru thoughtfully nodded her head, turning back into the house. It was a cold winter's day in Tokyo...
