Hezuo

Hezuo

When I went to Hezuo I was lucky enough to see part of a Tibetan cultural festival.  The dances, the costumes, were great.  The unfortunate thing was the crowding.  Anyone who has ever been in a crowd trying to take photos can appreciate how much jostling and obstruction of your sight line can occur.  Magnify the difficulty of what you are imagining about 500xs (unless you've spent time in North-east Asia).  I felt like I was going to be trampled.  My lenses could have been grabbed out of my hands and it's questionable whether either I or the thief could have moved in response to the grab.  Finally I got sick of the effort and took photos of performers and other attendees on the outskirts.

Hezuo's claim to fame is this temple, of an innovative design, fourteen stories high.

The countryside around Hezuo, like that in the rest of the region, was fantastic.  Rape flowers were in full-bloom, painting the hillsides with stripes of yellow.
