6  A street light (or decoration) in Georgetown

7  Georgetown is filled with very Western architecture

8  Four young women and a girl enjoy the evening air along The Esplanade.  Though Malaysia is a Muslim country, Penang Island is not dominantly Muslim.  Perhaps Penang is an exception, but in my observation women in head scarves lived a normal life, aside from the head gear.  They drove freely (even motorcyles with helmets shoved down over the scarves!), walked out on their own, sometimes accompanied by men who were apparently not Muslims, they worked in stores, went shopping at the mall... obviously Malaysian Muslim thinking is a world away from disasters such as Afghanistan.
