Xi'an
Xi'an is a huge bustling busy city in the center of China, best known for the thousands of statues that have been discovered in the tombs there, collectively called the "Army of Terracotta Warriors". It was my intention when I planned a stop in Xi'an to visit the tombs, but upon closer inquiry I discovered that I'd mostly just be able to see replicas and an overpriced museum. In addition, I'm not good at indoor photography, dislike tourist traps (especially in China, they have the most aggressive trinket sellers in the world!) and it would have meant the commitment of most of a day. I finally decided to skip the tombs, and checked out two quite good museums in the city, as well as the largest Mosque in town (with Chinese landscaping for the grounds!) and the temple which you can see in the photos below. If I went back, I think I'd go to see the Army, but I'm not sure.

I met an American who had spent one year studying Chinese in Xi'an, Misha, and he told me about Sleeping Dragon Temple, a Chinese-Buddhist Temple, which I visited the next morning.
