Miryang is a small city about an hour south of Daegu. Every-year at the end of the summer (by the lunar calendar, July 15th) they have a one day celebration named after the dance native to Miryang "Baekjoongjoelri". Every year after everything is done, I see photos in the newspaper of yesterdays celebration and I want to kick myself. But in 2001, conveniently enough, I was dating a man from Miryang and for once, I made it down there. The Baekjoongnoelri dance is a celebration of farming, farming life, planting, weeding, harvesting. In the dance the dancers act out the cycle of the year on the farm and in the farm community.
The locals also invited several other troupes to augment the festivities, however most of the photos below are of the Miryang-ites, not the guests.
