I met Owen twice while I was living in Calgary. The first time was at an autograph session sponsored by the WWF. There were three or four guys there besides Owen. Owen was the only one to completely break character. He was a major heel at the time but you couldn't have found a more cheerful, happy guy.
He chatted with the fans while signing autographs, thanked everyone for coming (which is not to say the other guys were less appreciative, but there was a long line and the others signed the autographs quicker and moved everyone along), and shook everyone's hand. This was quite a few years ago, before it was commonplace for wrestlers to break kayfabe, and I was suprised and delighted to see Owen completely out of character.
The second time I met him was about two days later, in Bankers Hall mall. He was there with a lady and some kids (presumably his wife and kids although I did not recognize them for sure), but took time out to sign autographs for whoever asked him. I approached him and he recognized me from the autograph session, and even remembered my name (which I didn't even remember telling him).
He thanked me again for attending the autograph session, and we started chatting about movies (we were standing outside of the movie theatre in the mall and were both going to see a movie). He was taking the family to a kids movie, and we continued to chat while we were in line for tickets. We bought our tickets, went to our seperate movies, and I never spoke to him again.
I will never forget that he remembered my name out of thousands of people that he had met days before. He seemed to be one of the most genuine men I had ever met. He will always be missed.
Mean Dean has spoken.
I haven't been here or even on-line that much anymore it seems and I thought today would be a good day to come here and post one special post!
And that is about the LATE and GREAT OWEN HART!
You know people say that they will always know when President Kennedy was shot or when MARK MCGURIE broke the Home Run Record.
Well, I will always remember when the tragic Death of one of the Best Men (OWEN HART) died.. I was actually on the Bret Hart Bulletin Board and talking to a friend on IM's.. His death happened around 9:31 P.M. After the fall I received a couple of phone calls of friends that was I guess you could say closer to the accidents (I think some people on the BB will know what I mean by that)
But anyway I talked to them and they informed me of the news that I had already known.. It was a very sad and scary day for ME, OWENS FAMILY, OWENS FRIENDS, OWENS FANS, OWENS CO-WORKERS, and EVERYBODY THAT IS IN OR WATCHES THE WRESTLING BUSINESS!!
I can sit here and type how some people should be accountable, but that is not why I am here. I am here to talk about one of the best MEN INSIDE and OUTSIDE the WRESTLING BUSINESS!! I think out of all the guys in the business that I could have met I think it would have been OWEN!! (Maybe a tie between BRET and OWEN) OWEN always tried to make things less hard on the guys, always playing tricks trying to let them forget about their problems!!
OWEN had GREAT MORALS that a lot of people don't have!! He knew that Family always came first. So he would always save up ever penny he could get and save for his family's future!! They were building themselves a new home and after OWENS contract up he was going to retire so he could watch his kids grow up and just be closer to his family!! Sadly that will never happen and the WORLD has lost a GREAT GUY and ROLE MODEL!!
There are a lot of wrestlers that I would suggest kids not to look up too, But OWEN HART was a guy that any kid could look up too 100%!! OWEN YOU WILL BE MISSED, BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN!! R.I.P. OWEN

"The Burn"
by Mark Henry
Copyright © 1999 Mark HenryYou feel the burn when you cry
It starts to come when someone dies
The pain you feel as your eyes swell and the tears will up in the wells
The burn starts to choke you up
the words come out slow and shaken
You close your eyes and wonder why
There is a burn when you cry
When Owen left it felt like hands around my throat
I couldn't talk I couldn't see
The Burn over-whelmed me
My heart is heavy this is why
You get the burn when you cry
It digs down deep you can not sleep
You toss and turn in your sheets
Awaken with sobs and wet pillow cases
You wander aimlessly looking to the sky
You feel the burn when you cry
