The Alderwood Mall opened in Fall 1979. By 1980, the mall had 5 department stores including The Bon, Nordstrom, Lamonts, J C Penney, and Sears. Alderwood was one of the first malls in the Puget Sound area to feature a food court.
Allied Stores, at one time owner of the Bon Marche, originally owned the mall site but had sold the site to Debartolo by the time the mall was built. The mall has changed hands since.
Since the mall opened, the original food court has been replaced by a larger food court and Lamonts has gone out of business. In 2004, Nordstrom replaced its original store with a new store located on the site of the former Lamonts. A lifestyle open air section of the shopping center opened in November. a new multiplex cinema near the food court is under construction.
