The Seattle based Bon Marche department store expanded throughout the Pacific Northwest in part by acquiring existing stores. The Bon's expansion into Yakima and Walla Walla are examples. The Walla Walla store was acquired in the 1960s. It is located at the corner of Main and Colville. The Bon, unlike Sears and Penney's, stayed in Downtown Walla Walla when the Blue Mountain Mall opened on the west side of town around 1988. J C Penney has since left the Walla Walla market.
