Clackamas Town Center opened in Spring 1981. I visited the mall during the grand opening weekend. Meier & Frank's Clackamas store had opened the previous year. The Bon Marche had also opened stores in Washington State at malls, e.g. Northgate and Tacoma Mall, before the malls themselves had opened. Clackamas Town Center is located approximately 10 miles SE of downtown Portland on the NW corner of the I-205 Sunnyside Road interchange.
The two level mall is laid out in a generally east-west direction. Sears is on the west end of the mall, JC Penney on the east end, and Meier & Frank on the south side of the center of the mall. There was an ice skating rink on the lower level and a food court on the upper level overlooking the rink on the north side across the mall from Meier & Frank. Tonya Harding used to practice skating here and at Lloyd Center. The ice skating rink is now closed but the food court is still open. Nordstrom has a store on the north side of the mall between Sears and the ice rink/food court. Montgomery Ward had a store between the food court/ice rink and JC Penney. After the demise of Wards, Meier & Frank opened its home store on the upper level of the former Wards. Copeland Sports now occupies the lower level.
Future plans call for rebuilding the food court/ice rink portion of the mall into more retail shops with a possible extension to the north.
