SR 26 begins at Jct I-90 Exit 137 across the Columbia River from Vantage and heads east via Othello to Jct US 195 at Colfax. When first posted as such in 1964, the eastern terminus of SR 26 was at Jct US 295 at Dusty. In 1967, US 295 was decertified as a US highway and was renumbered SR 127. The Dusty to Colfax portion of SR 127 was renumbered SR 26 in 1979. SR 26 is 133.61 miles long.
Before 1964, SR 26 from the Vantage area to Washtucna had been SSH 7C and from Washtucna to Dusty part of SSH 11B.
