Secondary State Highway 1S

SSH 1S was added to the state highway system in 1937. This route started at Jct PSH 1 (US 99) in Woodland and headed easterly along the north side of the Lewis River to the vicinity of Yale, then southwesterly to Battle Ground, then west, ending at Jct PSH 1 (US 99) at Duluth. When US 99 was shifted from its route through Duluth to the present route of I-5 in the early 1940s, SSH 1S was extended south from Duluth along old US 99 to new US 99. Today, the portion of SSH 1S from Woodland to Battle Ground is part of SR 503. SSH 1S from Battle Ground to I-5 Exit 10 is now SR 502.
