SSH 2E was added to the state highway system in 1937. This route began at Jct PSH 2 (US 10) in Cle Elum and headed northwesterly via Roslyn to the national forest boundary near lake Cle elum. When the I-90 Cle Elum bypass was opened to traffic in 1967, SSH 2E, by this time signed as SR 903, was extended along old US 10 (Business Loop 90) to Jct PSH 2 (at the time US 97, now SR 970) on the east side of Cle Elum. SSH 2E is now SR 903.
