SSH 2H was added to the state highway system in 1937. This route began at Jct PSH 3 (then US 195/US 395, now US 2/US395) in Spokane and headed northeasterly on Trent Ave past Trentwood to Wellesley Ave, then east on Wellesley via Otis Orchards to Jct PSH 2 (US 10) near the Idaho state line.
The description was reversed in 1963. In 1967, the Wellesley Ave portion was dropped from the state highway system. In its place, Trent Rd from Jct Idaho SR 53 at the state line to Wellesley Ave was added to SSH 2H. SSH 2H is now SR 290.
