SSH 8A was added to the state highway system in 1937. This route began at Jct PSH 1 (US 99/US 830) in Vancouver and headed northeasterly to Orchards, then southeasterly, ending at Jct PSH 8 (US 830) in Camas. In 1961 the legal route description was reversed. Today, SSH 8A is SR 500.
