Secondary State Highway 10B

SSH 10B was added to the state highway system in 1937. At first, this route began at Jct PSH 10 (now SR 17) at Bridgeport and headed east to the Grand Coulee Dam area. In 1951, SSH 10B was realigned so that it connected with PSH 10 at Leahy instead of Bridgeport. Also, a western section of SSH 10B was added from PSH 10 at Sims Corner westerly via Mansfield and southerly via Withrow to Jct PSH 2 (US 2) at Farmer. In 1955, an SSH 10B Spur was added to connect the SSH 10 trunk with the Crown Point viewpoint overlooking Grand Coulee Dam.

When the state route number signs were changed in January 1964, SSH 10B from PSH 10 (SR 17) became part of SR 174. The Crown Point spur became SR 174 Spur. The highway from Sims Corner via Mansfield and Withrow to Farmer became SR 172.
