WORKSHOP SCHEDULE
This weekly workshop for fiction writers (of short stories, novels) is designed to build the writer's understanding of magical realist elements by learning to identify them in their own work and in the work of others. This is not a writer's critique workshop; we will discuss technique only as it pertains to writing using magical realist elements.
Discussions will center on the effectiveness of magical realist elements as they currently exist in a manuscript and whether they could be improved. Risks in using certain elements will also be discussed. Other categories of speculative writing will likely be discussed during this time.
This workshop requires a minimum of 4 students and a maximum of 8 students to run.
*Offline workshop: Students meet in a private, password-protected online classroom to exchange writing assignments and to collect homework assignments, then return weekly to the online classroom to post their homework. No live forum means students are free to work without a schedule except when turning in assignments.
