Dogs of War Regiments of Renown:

GOLGFAG'S MERCENARY OGRES
These guys are 500 points, but you get your money's worth. For your 500
points you get a really hard core lord-level character in Golgfag, a
Champion-level (for an Ogre) character in Skaff, and 3 Ogres. The whole
regiment has 19 attacks and 19 wounds, not a bad deal. The basic Ogres are
only S4, but their T5 means they'll really take a pounding. Their downside
is also their biggest benefit. With all those attacks and wounds in one
regiment, your opponent will throw everything he's got at the Ogres.
They can usually handle it, just make sure they don't get too surrounded.
Then the corpses will pile up. Just watch for cannons. Ouch. These guys
get eaten up by cannons.

BRAGANZA's BESIEGERS
These guys are a little strange. Crossbowmen, with BS of only 3, but with a
3+ save. If you're going castle defense, these guys would works pretty well
as a shield wall that shoots back. Not bad, but the Marksmen of Miragliano
are cheaper and have BS of 4. The models look cool though.

LONG DRONG SLAYER'S PIRATES
Hard core dwarves. Each one has BS of 4 and two pistol shots in HtH. Long
Drong has WS 6 and 4 shots in HtH. They could probably take on Golgfag's
boys, as they are 263 points for Long Drong and 4 Pirates then 13 points per
model, and could outnumber them. Still a little expensive for a 2000 point
game. Like all Slayers they have no save, but T4 makes up for that some,
and they'll never run. They're drunk, so their HtH oppononts get -1 to hit.
Like all Dwarves they're slow, and wouldn't work in an attacking army.

VOLAND'S VENATORS
These guys get mixed reviews from different players. They have only T3 and
S3, but have a 2+ save-the Medium Cavalry with Heavy Armor. Still, they
have S5 on a charge, and are the only Dogs of War regiment with a 2+ save.
They are relatively cheap (215 for Voland and 4 Venators, then 35 each), so
getting 2 ranks is an easy possibility. They're good for a charge and
breaking engaged units-just use them right, and use them as flankers, not to
run out in front of the army.

PIRAZZO'S LOST LEGION
These guys are pretty pointless. They can have a crossbow, sword, and light
armor or sword, pike, and heavy armor. Besides the fact that having a
pike and a sword is just useless, the dual options for this regiment really
don't do anything. They would be good if they could have the option of a
pike and a crossbow, but as they are they suck. You might as well get
the Alcatani Fellowship, who are cheaper and just as good (or bad).

AL MUKTAR'S DESERT DOGS
They are a little expensive, but you get 2 heroes with unique magic items.
As fast cavalry, they should be used as flankers and harassers. I've
never used them, but one has S4 and one has S5 and S6 on a charge, so they
would probably be pretty effective. The regular troopers only have WS3
and S3, but then again they are only 12 points each mounted with a 5+ save.
Just make sure they don't go against any pikes.

ASARNIL THE DRAGONLORD
A Great Dragon and an Elven Hero are a deal for only 750 points, and they
have all the normal benefits of Elven Dragons. The Dragon's big and ugly,
but Asarnil only has a 4+ armor save and no special save, so watch out.
His Armor of Opponent's Weapon Skill Is One is helpful, but in HtH with
everybody targeting Asarnil he might have some trouble. That is, if
anybody is left after being fought by the Dragon. All in all a good deal,
and hey-Dogs of War is the only army that could field a Dragon in a 2000
point game.

LEOPOLD'S LEOPARD COMPANY
There is a theme among Dogs of War of useless, repetitive pike regiments. I
mean, pikes are good and all, but isn't 4 regiments of pikemen too many?
The basic troopers are exactly the same as Pirazzo's Lost Legion, and
Leopold is a slightly better hero. My advice would be to either go for the
cheapest with the Alcatani Fellowship, or go for the best with Ricco's
Republican Guard.

BRONZINO'S BATTERY OF GALLOPER GUNS
These are the only Dogs of War artillery, and they can be effective. Moving
and shooting a cannon is really fun, especially bringing it into a shot
straight across a regiment engaged in HtH. They are only S5, which is
enough for most troops, but don't expect the Galloper Gun to take out very
tough troops. Still, it does do D3 wounds, so is pretty effective in taking
out things like Ogres. However, the Gun's big drawback is T4 and 2 wounds.
Don't take these against armies with lots of shooters, as they will
invariably die. Against armies like Chaos, though, who has no shooters,
these would be very effective (and the negation of armor save is essential).

MARKSMEN OF MIRAGLIANO
Wow, these guys are good. The basic trooper has BS4, so field them in large
numbers. Twenty of these guys would be nowhere close to too many. The hero
is expensive, but he does have BS5, and getting enough of them balances out
his price very well. The basic Marksman is only 11 points, so definitely
get as many as you can. Did I mention to get as many as you can?

BEORG BEARSTRUCK AND THE BEARMEN OF URSLO
The basic Bearman has WS4 and S4, and you get a banner bearer with an extra
attack. They only have T3, but then there's Beorg. WS5, S6, T5, 3W, 4A,
and a 4+ Special Save to boot. Truthfully the Bearmen are only
there to carry Beorg and give him Look Out, Sir. Don't get me wrong, they
are effective in HtH, as the unit also gets +1 to hit in every first round
of combat, but Beorg is just a monster (a bear in fact).

VESPERO'S VENDETTA
While not quite as good as Wardancers, the Vendetta are pretty effective
skirmishers. The basic Duellers have WS4 and 2 attacks, but only S3.
Vespero is pretty beef, with WS6, S4, and 4 attacks. They are very cheap,
as 5 are 115 and additional Duellers are only 9 points each. However,
they have only a 6+ save, and that only in HtH, so don't let them get shot.
They are ideally suited for flanking or guarding your army's rear from
flyers.
and such.

THE ALCATINI FELLOWSHIP
This is actually either the second-best or best Pike regiment, depending on
your point of view. They are definitely the cheapest, as you can get 5
ranks of 5 for only 270 points. They only have WS3, but so do the other
two weaker Pikemen regiments. They only have a 6+ save, and the leader of
the regiment is "only" a champion, but you can field these guys in very
large numbers.

RICCO'S REPUBLICAN GUARD
This is the mac of the Pike regiments. They all have WS4 and a 5+ save, and
Ricco is a full-blown hero with 9 Ld. You pay extra for that extra for that
extra weapon skill, save, and leadership, but it is definitely worth it.
These guys can easily handle most infantry and tear up cavalry-except
cavalry with a 1+. That is the inherent flaw in pikes, as they just aren't
strong enough to get past that 1+ save. Anything else, though, these guys
just tear up.

THE BIRDMEN OF CATRAZZA
I just love these guys. Move and shoot with BS4 and crossbows and no
penalties for shooting and moving-you gotta love that. They can even shoot
while flying high at other models flying high, then do glancing blows, too.
Great for taking out war machines and harassing the enemy army, picking
guys off and keeping them from marching. Just don't charge anything better
than war machine crews-they have a lot of attacks (11 from the starting 5)
but they only have S3 (except Dadallo)and no save. Still, definitely worth
their points.
