Med Kits

In the kits, there are the following: kanda leaf, various-sized needles pre-threaded with verr-gut thread, tweezers, pliers. Also in the kits are small pads of cloth for controlling blood flow and cleaning wounds.A bottle of diluted Paga mixed with water, and a bottle of sterile water, and a vial of kanda salve.Store these kits in the medical wagon and a few in quick to retrieve places in the camp.
Making Bandages

Using old clean soft cloth, sterilize in boiled water, dry then cut into thin strips. Wrap strips into rolls then place in med. kit pouches. Check the kits often to make sure they are well stocked.

Preparing Kanda Salve
Grind the kanda until fine then boil the kanda in water cooked with bosk lard, until the mixture thickens slightly; pour into small vials(jars), using a cloth over the opening of the vial/jar to strain out any bits of leaves; allow to cool and thicken. Store in the med kits.

Poison
If a slave or a Free gets poisoned then use milk and honey, mix it together and make the P/person drink large dozes.
Bruises

Put icepacks on the bruised place, offer to massage it gently with oil and then wrap a bandage around.
Cuts/Gashes

Wipe the blood away, clean it with diluted paga and decide if it needs stiching. If not, then clean it and wrap a bandage around to protect it from infections.
Stitching Wounds

Remember-when treating wounds, to treat the bleeding wounds first, always stop the bleeding first.
1.) clean the wound, dip a clean rep cloth in the diluted paga. carefully wipe the blood away and determine if wounds are still bleeding and stop the bleeding. then assess what stiches to use. internal for deep wounds. external wounds not as deep. smaller stiches for places that bends (ie. knee, wrist ect.)
2.) reach for the needle and thread it according to whether the wound needs inside stitches first or not.
3.) if internal stitches are needed move quickly and offer more kanda leaf.
4.) stich the wound, as small stiches as possible, after every stich, tie a knot. after the stitches are in place generously apply the kanda salve and then sprinkle with the healing herbs.
5.) apply a soft clean pad to cover the wound and wrap the wound in a clean bandage

Cauterizing a Wound

1.Wash the wound with sterile water only. Do NOT use paga at all.
2.Heat the fire-stick/quiva in the fire until it glows white.(Always ask permission to use a weapon)
3.Press the heated item to the wound, quickly for five seconds. Remove the stick/quiva and check to see that the wound is sealed completely.
4.Apply a thick layer of kanda salve and healing herbs.
5.Wrap with fresh bandages, sterile bandages.

Blades / Arrows in Wound

Any protuding object in the Master (ie:arrows, quivas, bolts, etc) reach for a clean rep cloth and hold it next to the wound tightly. pull the object out in one clean swift motion. continue to apply pressure and stop the bleeding. clean the wound. then stitch accordingly.
Herbs that are good to know.

Black pepper : It hurts but will stop bleedings.
Capture scent : it will render a person unconscious when inhaled, can give headache when the P/person wakes up.
Honey : Applied on a wound helps promote healing.
White sage, Peppermint and Bearfat: will pull out an infection.
Kanda : Used in healing salve and Kanda leaf will take most of the pain. BUT ALWAYS tell the P/person not to swallow, it is deadly poison to swallow.
Willow bark : may be added to teas for bruises, strains or head injury .
