ACHIEVEMENTS

IN 1778, Charles was worth L240, which was pretty good for a single man who was not then a landowner. This figure probably represents mostly livestock - and in the case of a single man, most likely horses with a few cattle and hogs.
BETWEEN 1781 and 1790, Charles with his wife and her father William and her brother William, Jr., along with several others from the same area moved to the headwaters of Lower Little River in what was in Burke County. In this section, there are two branches of Lower Little River called Grassy Fork and the Muddy Fork, which were running parallel to each other and not far apart. They first settled on Grassy Fork, but Charles later moved a short distance over to the head of the Muddy Fork. A subsequent change in the county line threw the Muddy Fork into Iredell County, but left the Chambers families on the Grassy Fork in Wilkes County.
