Text: The original will of the widow Ellen is among the records of the Court of the Archdeaconry of Bucks, but the probate act is missingt, so that it is impossible to determine exactly when it was proved, and thus obtain the approximate date of her death. The date is the 24th of some month [the paper just here eaton or torn away] in the 8th year of Queen Elizabeth. The exact date may therefore have been the 24th of November, 1565, or the 24th of any month thereafter down to 24th October, 1566

Note: Thomas was of Horwood and Whaddon, jure uxoris of Doddershall, sargeant-at-law 1510. His will was probated in 1520. He was resident of Whaddon Hall which he inherited from his mother, Margarey Giffard. "The old manor-house of the Giffards and the Pigotts was altered by later owners and afterwards was known as Whaddon Hall. In 1541 surveyors reported the house to be 'a fair old mansion place...wherein is a fair old large hall and a chapel with fair parlours, lodgings, butteries,' all in good repair; a garden, gallery, dove house, and stables are also enumerated." (Robert Joseph Curfman, "The Yale Descent from Braiose & Clare Through Pigott of Buckinghamshire," The American Genealogist, Vol 56," 1980: pg. 9, from "The Victoria History of the Counties of England---Buckinghamshire," London, 1927 3:441)
After Thomas's death, Whaddon Manor was held by Catherine of Aragon, the alientated first queen of Henry VIII. In 1540, the widow Elizabeth was granted Whaddon on a 21 year lease by Henry VIII and, in 1541, she also claimed rights to the park by right of Thomas Pigott who had inherited Whaddon from his mother, heiress of the Giffards. Elizabeth also received Giffards Manor in dower from Thomas, with reversion to her stepson William Pigott. Disoutes later arose regarding rights and, in 1543, Elizabeth sold Giffards Manor to Henry VIII in return for an annuity.
There is a monument to Thomas and his two wives in the north chapel of the Church of St. Mary at Whaddon. It is an elaborately carved Purbeck marble, canopied tomb. "The brasses show kneeling figures representing Thomas, his two woves and ten children. Above are two shields, one quartering Pigott with Forster the other with this impaling a saltire engrailed and a chief with two 'molets' for 'Elizabeth Ewerby,' his second wife." (Robert Joseph Curfman, "The Yale Descent from Braiose & Clare Through Pigott of Buckinghamshire," The American Genealogist, Vol 56," 1980: pg. 7.)
