p. 27 The charter of the town is printed and, included in the signatures is "Benjaman Wheetney Benjamin Whitney" One would assume this is an interpretation by the author.(?)
p. 108 (section regarding Surry in the Revolution) WHITNEY, Benjamin. Was in what is now Surry as early as July 1768 when he signed the petition for the new town. He may be the same as mentioned in Keene, as coming from Marlboro, Mass. He rem. prior to 1776 and settled in Westminster, VT, where he probably was living in 1790.
Enl. May 1, 1775; dis. Aug. 1, 1775, in Capt. William Walker's Co., Col. James Reed's Reg. Gilsum History states he was at the battle of Bunker Hill.

Brockway, Wolston (b. 23 Dec 1712, d. 3 Oct 1789)
Note: He was a tavern owner and inn keeper. He was involved with local politics and served as Town Manager and Commissioner of Roads. In 1775 he was a signer of the "New Hampshire Association Test" in which he agrees to "with arms oppose the proceedings of the British Fleet and Armies."

In the name of God Amen, The Eighth Day of July Ano Domini 1789, I Woolston Brockway of Surrey in the County of Cheshire and Slate of New Hampshire yeoman, being in a declining state of health and advanced in Age, but of perfect mind and memory, thanks be to God for it; calling to mind the mortality of my Body, & knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last Will & Testament - that is to say, principally & first of all, I give and recommend my Soul into the Hands of God that gave it & my Body I recommend to the Earth to be buried in a decent Christian Burial at the discretion of my Executor; nothing doubting but at the General resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty Power of God.

And as touching such worldly estate as it hath pleased God to Bless me with in this Life, I give demise & dispose of the same in the manor and form following.

Imprimis, I give and bequeath to Ester Brockway my well beloved Wife, the use and improvement of the whole of my estate that I am now possess, Real & Personal. So long as the said Esther shall remain my Widow, said personal estate so much as is necessary, held to pay all my tax and debts & demands which are or may be against said Estate.

Secondly, I give and bequeath unto my son John Brockway, one log of land lying in Sullivan containing twenty-one acres, being the second lot in this range. Also one certain parcel of land lying at the south part of my Home Lot, beginning at the southwest corner of my Home Lot, running West Twelve degrees South Eighty Eight rods to the South East corner of the Homelot, the use northerly by the Highway Twenty Rods, the use Westerly a parallel line to the top of the hill, then running on the brow of the Hill. The hill runs to the west line of my said Home Lot, then South Eight rods to the first mentioned bound. To him his Heirs & Assigns Forever.

Thirdly, I will & bequeath unto my Son Rufus Brockway all the remaining part of my Home Lot, lying in Surrey on the main Road, be the same more or less to be given to him the said Rufus, & to his lawful male heirs. Also, the whole of a tract of land Grandchild, Heir of Sarah Dooliffle, Five Shillings. Eighthly, I will to my daughter, Parnal Beckwith, Five Shillings and to my Grand Child Anna Alger Five Shillings. Also to my Daughter Jane Gates Five Shillings. Also to my Daughter Jerusha Whitney Five Shillings. Also to my Daughter, Phoebe Chaffe, Five Shillings. Also my daughter Esther Meriam Five shillings. Also to my youngest Daughter Mehetabel Brockway, I will one good featherbed & under-bed & furniture; and if she should remain unmarried & prove incapable of taking care of herself, my two sons John & Rufus shall decently maintain her as long as she lives, according to her degree.

The Legacies which are above mentioned which are to be paid out of my Estate, are not to be paid till after the decease of my Widow and then be paid by my Executor if Demanded and the remainder of any moveable Estate, after necessary charges & debts & Legacies are paid, if any then should be, I bequeath to my son Rufus Forever. Also my wearing apparel that shall remain after my Decease, I will and bequeath to my Four Sons to be equally divided amongst them. I also institute, ordain & appoint my well beloved Son John Brockway my Executor to this my last Will & Testament. And I utterly disallow & disannul & make void any Wills or Bequeathments that has been heretofore made & published by me the said Woolston Brockway, ratifying & confirming this & no other to be my Last Will & testament. In Witness whereof I have this day set my Hand & Seal, the Day & year within Written.
