Text: The Aspinwall records of Boston have the first record of John Huntley in 1647 when he signs as witness for power of attorney for Thomas Bayes (Asp. 323) and again in 1648 when he signs for Thomas Foster (Asp. 233). On page 140 of these same records there appears an account between John Huntley and John Pease in regard to a load of fish which Huntley sold in the Barbadoes, shipped in the "Welcome, Mr. John Allen, Mr.
The deposition of John Prace ae 65 yrs. dated 1 July 1679 states: "29 or 30 years ago, Mr. Hanniford, Mariner, living in Boston in the house adjoining the house and grounds of Hope Allison, standing on land on which William Griggs lately built a house, and this house and land was accounted to be Hanniford's own property, and John Huntley lived on and thereof and paid the said Hanniford rent for the same, and said Huntley's wife died there of small pox. They were Mr. Hanniford's tenants." This statement gives the proof of Mr. Huntley's first marriage. The only mention of John Huntley in public life was his participation in the New London-Lyme riot, when he with many of his neighbors protested the boundary line between Lyme and New London 12 Mar. 1671/2.
