Evan Hancock
Evan arrived with his family in 2001. Since arriving on Ramsey Street Evan
has not got on well with the Kennedy's, the main reason being that Susan
does not agreee with some of his ideas at school. Evan is concerned about
nature and wildlife and also caused conflict with the Scully's when he
entered into the elections late, challenging Joe in the campaign. Evan
disagreed with Joe's ideas about building on Warratah Creek and enetered to
stop this going ahead. Evan won the election, becoming the Erinsborough
councillor. A while after the election Evan and Leo started argueing over
Leo's breakdancing. Evan refused to let Leo go to the semi-finals in
Adelaide and Leo was furious. He sneaked out with his bag on the night he
was meant to leave and went to the bus station but did not get on the bus
and watching it drive away. He later told Evan he had missed the bus. Evan
finally made it up with Leo and his concern moved to Matt. He was shocked
when Matt was involved in a crash after a drag race that ended in disaster.
Whilst trying to recover from this shock and Matt's impending court case he
found out that wife Maggie had feelings for Toadie. He gave her a decision -
Toadie or him, and she chose him. They were forced to sell Number 32 to get
Matt a decent lawyer and the family moved away together.
Arriving in May 2001, Evan is a maths teacher at Erinsborough High. He is
excellent at his job, but sometimes lets his own morals get in the way of
his abilities as a teacher. He has four children. Two of them, Matt and
Chris, are from his first marriage to Geneveive. This marriage broke down,
possible because Gen is rude and greedy. Anyway, Evan also has two children,
Leo and Emily, with his current wife, Maggie. He and Maggie also had another
little girl, Francesca, but she sadly drowned. Evan gets on reasonably well
with his neighbours. His tendancy to take the high moral ground has caused
some conflict with both Karl and Susan. He also has the inablility to see
the wrong in certain people, particularly his own children. Generally, Evan
is a nice guy, sometimes too nice, and sometimes a bit too smart and
moralistic for his own good.
He was also the voice of
B2 from ABC children's series Bananas in Pyjamas.
