-Jon English and the Hutt River national anthem

Most people don't know that the Australian artist Jon English is the father of the Hutt River national anthem

Jon English was born 1949 in London UK and when he was twelve he migrated to Australia. In 1965 he Joined "Zenith" a local Cabramatta band.

Later Jon toured with Bryan Ferry and Thin Lizzy and headlined his own shows. He won an ARIA award for best male vocal performance for "Turn the Page" and was voted RAM magazine's best male singer on three separate occasions. He took a break from the rock music scene for a while when he appeared as Jonathan Garrett in the television mini-series, "Against the Wind". The series has since been touted the most successful Australian mini-series ever.

Shortly after the independence of Hutt River Province in 1970, John English wrote the national anthem. A gesture which made him later a knight of the Hutt River Province.

HUTT RIVER NATIONAL ANTHEM

It's a hard land,
But it's our own land,
Built with love and dedication.
Self assured,
Is our small nation.
One man's dream of Independence.

God blessed the Prince
Of the Hutt River Province.
God blessed the man
Whose dream has come true.
God blessed this land
Where dreams can come true.

And God blessed the Prince
Of the Hutt River Province
God blessed the man
Whose dream has come true.
God blessed this land
Where dreams can come true.
