The Britax Roundabout is a infant to toddler convertible car seat. It can be used by children weighing between 5-30 pounds rear facing, and from 20-40 pounds once a child is AT LEAST 1 year AND 20 pounds. It is best practice to keep children rear-facing as long as possible. Rear-facing seats provide better protection to small children.
The Britax Freeway is the same shell as the Britax Roundabout but can only be used in the forward facing position ONLY, This seat is for children OVER 1 year of age and who weigh AT LEAST 20 pounds.
Both the Britax Roundabout and Britax Freeway are have EPS foam(similar to protective head gear)lining the top of the seats shell with a layer of comfort foam added for extra padding. Each seat has a nicely padded cover to boot too! Each seat has a tether attached to it for added safety. The Roundabout is one of the only convertible car seats on the market that allow the tehter to be used while in the rear facing position. Both these seats have built in locking clips and a harness system less prone to twisting. This is a great feature in my opinion! We really like our Britax car seats and would highly recommend them to anyone in the market for a convertible!
My son Ian was 7 months old when this picture was taken. He uses this seat rear facing. We moved him into the Roundabout when he was 3 months old and about 12 pounds. In this picture he is about 18 pounds and 29 inches tall and uses the first set of harness slots.
This is my daughter Janae seated in her Britax Freeway toddler seat. She is 3 years old, 23 pounds and 34.5 inches tall. She uses the middle slots while forward facing in this seat.
