I believe that legalizing gay marriages is a great idea. Gays are just like any straight person. They just have different sexual orientation, and you can’t tell that they are gay by looking at them. Even so, differences are interesting, and the world would be boring without them.
Legalizing gay marriages would definitely have an affect on the economy. I think that it would require some changes, and maybe a little hard work, but I think the economy could handle it. For example, businesses would have to pay for more spouse health insurance, but on the other hand there is no law saying that businesses are required to hire a person on just their experience. The government could just say that all businesses are not required to hire a person without considering their sexual orientation first, which means that companies could prevent from having gay employees. Also, legalizing gay marriages would give gays the benefit of having a joint bank account. If gay people had the legal benefits of marriage, then I also think that adopting would be an easier process for them, which would benefit a lot of people. Adoption would be less of a hassle, and more parentless children would be able to go on to live happy lives, even if their adoptive parents were gay. There are a lot of economical issues when it comes to gay marriages, but I think they could be resolved.
Another way people consider and debate over gay marriages is the Bible, or the Constitution. When it comes to the Constitution, I think that not legalizing gay marriages is kind of like having a relapse of the discrimination against African Americans, and slavery. Again we can use “Fairness and equality for all.” We’re again debating over what that really means. When talking about the Bible, I know that some people think that gay marriages are a sin, but others don’t. Many people aren’t religious, or they have other religions, and don’t base their opinions about gay marriage upon the Bible. The Constitution and the Bible are about people’s beliefs, and they have to make those decisions for themselves.
I think that legalizing would also have quite an affect on all heterosexuals, homophobic or not. One reason is that many might feel that the benefits from matrimony are no longer special. Also if they aren’t comfortable with gay marriages, then they may have to be uncomfortable, but on the other hand, I think it is easier to deal with being uncomfortable, than to deal with not be legally allowed to marry who you love. If PDA (Public Displays of Affection) from gays would make a straight person uncomfortable, then think about it this way. Maybe PDA from straight people makes gays uncomfortable, maybe they feel the same way about straight people, as straight people do about gays. Just something to think about…
I believe that gays should be allowed to marry and have all the benefits and rights of matrimony after all they are people too. I’m also okay with admitting that there are hurdles in legalizing gay marriages, but I think the country could handle them.
