Have you ever herd of Nancy Drew? Well Sammy is a really modern version of her. Actually, the only things they have in common is their both female and love to solve mysteries. Sammy is just another teen girl trying to get through junior high but she seems to be a magnet for mysteries. Sammy, unlike most detectives, lives against the rules and on the line of trouble! Van Draanen has written eight thrilling novels about this teen detective and her life the one I’m going to write about now is the first one, but if you like this one I recommend the other seven very highly!
Sammy’s not looking for trouble, but she should have known she was going to get into it when she focused her binoculars on the Heavenly hotel across the street. What does she see but a person with white gloves scooping money out of a purse? He sees her and what does she do, what any twelve-year-old girl in NYC would do, she waves. When she goes to tell the police and her favorite officer, Officer Borsch he just shakes his head and takes another bite of his donut. Now it’s up to Sammy to figure out this thrill packed mystery, and still get her homework done so she can graduate!
This book is very good but its nothing compared to the others Van Draanen has written like, The Curse Of Moustache Mary, The Search For Snake Eyes, The Art Of Deception, The Hollywood Mummy, The Run Away Elf, The Sisters Of Mercy, and The Skeleton Man! All of these thrilling novels are about Sammy her best friend Marisa, a cranky officer borsch, her gram who she lives with, Dot who is in some of the newer books who is also her friend, and her arch enemy heather Acast

The book I’m reviewing is Bartimaeus the 1st in the trioligy, which Jonathan Stoud is writing. This book is about a small boy all raped up in the magic world and a djinni that has to do his biding.
This story takes place in modern day London, and stares Nathaniel an 11-year-old boy the apprentice of not so powerful Mr. Underwood. All is well until he has a life-changing encounter with Simon Lovelace a very powerful magician when Lovelace brutally humiliates Nathaniel in public. Nathaniel is driven to learn spells way beyond his years with one thing on his mind, revenge! He finally masters one of the toughest spelled and summons a 5 thousand year old djinni named bartimaeus to assist him. But summoning bartimaeus and controlling him are two totally different things, but when he sends bartimaeus out to steel Lovelace’s biggest treasure Nathaniel finds himself in a whirlwind of lies, magic, and rebellion he’s not quite sure how to get out. I know that doesn’t seen like all of it but I don’t want to tell you the end cause that would ruin it.
This book is hilarious and you can just imagine what everything is like, the beginning I personally liked one character more than the other but once you get into the story they both are very big characters and you see each of there sides. This story is very vivid and the plot is very complex, but in the end it all ties together and everything makes since but there are a few lose strands so you
really want to find out what happens so it makes you want to read the other book.
