Joey's Gift of Silence

(Written by Joe McCullough)

There is a boy on God's earth,
who has not spoken since his birth.

Although we would love to hear his voice,
just his presence make us rejoice.

Still as everyday passes by;
We think "just say one word, just try".

Then we realize the boy is gifted with silence
because he is blessed in his world of no violence.

Everyone unconditionally he loves
and he is watched by the angels from above.

From his big brown eyes he sees
things that are oblivious to you and me.

This precious child always smiles; he never has a frown.

He really is talking, we just cannot hear
because he is talking to the angels who appear.

Some people think the boy is staring into outer space, but he sees God winking and whispering, "You have a special place."

It is really we that are not speaking,
Because we live accepting our souls are leaking.

As the boy grows and grows;
we will never even begin to understand the wealth he knows.

I know Fathers Day is coming up and usually the children give the fathers a gift, however my husband has given our son a gift. Our son Joey is 14 and severely autistic. He also is mentally handicapped. He cannot speak and is totally dependant on us for his needs, but we love him and praise God that He thought us good enough to give us a special child. My husband Joe has wrote a poem about Joey and I thought that you might enjoy it and share it with your readers. I am really proud of my husband.

    Children will not always do what they're told,
             but they will do what they see!

"Be an example to them of good deeds of every kind.
 Let everything you do reflect your love of the truth."
                          Titus 2:7 (TLB)
