The Final Result

I wasn't too successful in scanning the x-ray. I will continue to try to improve on it. You can obviously see the screws (one in the foreground, one in the rear) that were affixed through C2 into C1 to hold them firmly together while the bone graft fuses. Unfortunately, what you really cant see is the graft itself, the important key element of the procedure. I added the rounded rectangle to add emphasis to where your eyes should be affixed. You can barely make out some wire. That's exactly what that is-thin gauge metal wiring used to wrap the bone taken from hip to the rear of the vertebrae at C1/C2. My misunderstanding is that the graft would be fitted in between the vertebrae. The bone, which is slightly larger than one of my thumbs (yes, one of MY thumbs) was actually grafted to the rear of C1 and C2 where if you could see it more clearly (again my apologies) you would think I would have a lump on the back of my neck at the base of my skull. Anyway, until I find a way to get a better film, this is the basics for you that were curious.
