WWA Eruption PPV - April 13th From The Rod Laver Arena Melbourne
The show opens up with Jeff Jarrett coming to the arena in a limo, but McManus, Borash and some other guy who told Jarrett that Sid barred him from the building, so Jarrett responded by punching the other guy, and said hed be back.
Borash and Disco opened up commentary and some really bad pyro went off. During the matches they cut the live commentary from the arena, as it is only through the TV.
Another limo pulled up and Sid enters the building.
They
had this ring announcer guy (Australian) who didnt even know the name
of the freaking company and called it World Wrestling Allsports, and the crowd
got on his case. Not only that but he kept stalling and Borash had this look
on his face as if he wanted someone to shoot him. Then, their mics didnt
even work properly. Nice way to start off, these people have
production values!
AJ
Styles vs. Nova
The crowd hardly knew who these guys were. This is apparently part of a Cruiserweight
title tournament. AJ used some really stiff kicks early on. During this match
I actually heard the Tech. guy in the back yelling Cut to camera 6,
again, another sign of good production. The crowd worked themselves into the
match with lots of near falls and oohs and aahs. Nova
missed the Senton Bomb, and AJ hit the Styles clash which is one awesome move
for the win. Very short match though, only under 5 minutes.
The Starettes were brought back again for this PPV to entertain the crowd.
Clips were shown of Jerry Lynns debut at the last PPV.
Sid came out, with a walking stick. They talked about his injury, putting it over, but as far as I knew he actually was getting close to wrestling again so I dont know why he was selling the injury. He said he waited a long time for that crowd reaction. Sadly, there wasnt much of it. Sid puts over McManus for giving him a chance. I thought Ahmed Johnson was bad on the mic, but Sid makes him sound like Kurt Angle. Basically hyping the main event which we already knew about.
Chucky
vs. Jerry Lynn
The winner of this will face AJ Styles in the Cruiserweight title tournament.
Chucky is from Australia, and Ive only seen him once but hes pretty
good. Chucky hit a really nice spinning moonsault onto Lynn onto the outside.
This match was no longer than 4 minutes. I actually missed the end of the
match, but Lynn won.
Backstage, Puppet threatened to beat up one of the interviewers who looks really unrealistically terrified. You know whats sad, Puppet actually cut a promo 100 times better than Sid. Puppet got the most heat thus far by calling the crowd a bunch of dirty Aussies.
Puppet
vs. Tio
Puppet slammed Tio between two chairs which the announcers sold as if he was
dead. Tio hit a TKO but screwed up, so the crowd started with You Fed
Up chants. Tio was then whipped into the trashcans. Puppet then hit
a midget bomb off the top rope. Tio came back with a swinging neckbreaker.
Tio then hit a senton bomb for a 2 count. Tio then hit Puppet with a chair
while a
trashcan was over his head. They got out a ladder. And that was only to get
back into the ring
Anyway, he set up the 6 ft ladder, and hit a splash
onto Puppet for the win.
Backstage Tio flirted with Midajah.
Id
just like to note that you could hardly hear the entrance music on TV. Another
good production value. Buff Bagwell was introduced and the crowd let off a
big pop, and Disco claimed Oh look, its Judy Bagwells son!
When
Christopher was introduced, Disco claimed the same thing, except replaced
Judy with Jerry.
Stevie
Ray and Buff Bagwell vs. The Cat and Brian Christopher
Bagwell looked really really bad. I thought McManus said Bagwell would never
be back in WWA after last time? This was horrible. The crowd was dead, even
when everyone did their customary taunts and posed for the crowd. Stevie Ray
hit Christopher with a modified Bubba Bomb which looked quite painful. Cat
got the hot tag. Stevie accidentally hit Bagwell with a scissors
kick, and Cat and Christopher hit a double team Rock Bottom on Bagwell, and
Christopher hit a top rope legdrop to win the match. Why was this crap longer
much than the Cruiserweight matches? After the match, Christopher, Cat, the
Starettes and some kids from the crowd danced together. Joy.
Disco said This does not belong in pro wrestling, what would Lou Thesz think right now? I know hes saying that to be the heel announcer, but he was totally right. Disco then got into the ring and started doing his dancing, which made no sense considering he was complaining about people dancing on a wrestling show. The others kicked him out of the ring.
Oh my GOD! The Funkster was backstage and I could have sworn it was Hogan himself in the early 80s. Ive never seen him do that impression before, but that was brilliant. Quebecer Pierre did the Lance Storm gimmick and asked for respect in the Canadian national anthem. Funkster cut it off, big surprise.
Funkster
vs. Quebecer Pierre
Funkster did the poses before the match, to which surprisingly most of the
fans booed, I guess because they love Hogan. Disco said Do you realize
Pierre had his first match at 16, so he wrestled before he lost his virginity!
Funkster hit a nice flying sunset flip for a 2 count. Borash said Pierres
going up for the Swanton Bomb but he hit a top rope legdrop instead.
Good work Borash. Pierre hit a running powerbomb, and then hit the swanton
bomb, but the Funkster kicked out. He Funked up! No, I said funked. Funk hit
a piledriver and a legdrop for the win.
They showed some clips of Nathan Jones.
Scott
Steiner came out to a huge pop. He insulted the crowd by talking about our
manhood and that our sports were sissified. Well, its a good way to
get heel heat. Jones came out and said hed kick Steiners ass.
Jones went down to the ring, until Sid came out and told Jones to go backstage.
Borash said When Sid talks, people listen! Yeah, if theyre
not already asleep.
Steiner talked about how he broke Sids leg. Sid announced that hed
be the special enforcer. The crowd didnt care.
They showed clips from the 6-man cruiserweight match from the last PPV.
Cruiserweight
Title Match: AJ Styles vs. Jerry Lynn
They exchanged some counters earlier on, grappling on the mat. They both went
for an armdrag at the same time, and Lynn turned it into an armbar, a very
unique move. There was so much action I cant do it justice. Lynn applied
a nice surfboard submission. Styles unleashed some really stiff looking kicks.
Lynn came back with a northern lights release suplex into the corner. Lynn
was busted open. Styles hit a running springboard plancha onto
the outside. They hit a really long series of rolling pins, which ended in
a German suplex by Lynn. Lynn hit a really nice sitting powerbomb for another
near fall. Lynn hit a cradle piledriver, but Styles kicked out. Styles reversed
a powerbomb to hit his own Styles Clash, but Lynn kicked out. Styles then
went to the top rope and hit a huge senton twisting senton bomb
to a big pop, for the pin, to win the cruiserweight title. Styles and Lynn
high fived each other after the match. Best match on the show thus far by
far.
They showed some clips of Devon Storm vs. Sabu, while they set up the cage.
Cage
match: Devon Storm vs. Sabu
Borash announced that you can only win by pinfall, which totally nullifies
the cage. Storm powerbombed Sabu onto the cage, several times. Storm then
hit a top rope splash. Sabu regained control and rammed Storm into the cage,
several times. Sabu got some object and started stabbing Storm in the head,
as both guys were busted open. They got a chair in the ring and both used
it
to their advantage. Storm hit a DVD on the chair, but Sabu kicked out. Ok
so Storm got OUT of the cage, and got a steel guardrail. Getting out of the
cage wasnt even a way to win the match at all, so where is the logic
in that? Sabu then dropkicked Storm through the cage. Both of them then get
out
3 tables. Storm then rammed the guardrail into Sabu, several times. Storm
then placed Sabu on two of the stacked tables, and Storm climbed to the top
of the cage. He hit a splash from the top of the cage onto Sabu through a
couple of tables, as Holy S*** chants broke out. However no pin
attempt was made and Sabu brought a table into the ring, as they both went
back
inside the cage. Sabu then threw a fireball at Storms face out of nowhere
Sabu then put Storm on the table, and hit a moonsault onto the table, but
it didnt break. So Sabu went up and hit a legdrop from the top of the
cage and got the pin. Very good match, not the best match of all time, but
it was entertaining with a lot of spots.
Evening
Gown Match: Midajah vs. Queen Bee
Horrible catfight. Midajah removed Queen Bees clothes to win the match,
when the midgets came down to the ring and speared Midajah and removed her
clothes.
WWA
Title Match: Nathan Jones vs. Scott Steiner w/Sid as special enforcer. Jones
is freaking huge. Steiner wiped his ass with the Australian flag. Heel rule
#43. They traded shoulderblocks and other power moves early on. Jones hit
a huge slingshot clothesline over the top rope on Steiner for a near fall.
Steiners a Wanker chants broke out. Steiner whipped Jones
right through one of the security railings which flew about 6 feet back. Steiner
seemed more interested in jawing with the fans at ringside which got him a
good amount of heat. Steiner hit a big belly to belly for a 2 count. Jones
was making a comeback, but Steiner hit a low blow followed by a nothern lights
suplex. Steiner put on a Sharpshooter for some weird reason. Sid is shown
at ringside cheering for Jones. Steiner hit another belly to belly. Steiner
is dominating the whole match, that means Jones will retain. Jones came back
with a sidewalk slam, followed by a series of clotheslines. Jones
went up to the top rope, and slipped, and landed totally on his face. Jones
went for a chokeslam, but Midajah climbed into the ring and got on Jones
back, but Jones threw her down. While the ref wasnt looking, Steiner
hit Jones with the belt, but Jones kicked out. Steiner then when after Sid,
but decided against it. Jones hit the chokeslam, but Midajah attacked the
referee. Sid got in the ring and went to powerbomb Midajah, but the referees
broke it up. Steiner hit Jones with the belt again, and Steiner applied the
Steiner Recliner. The refereee lifted his arms and they dropped 3 times, so
Steiner wins the title.
After
the match, Sid gets in the ring, walking stick and all, and gets the mic.
Sid then raised Steiners hand because he said hes the best. Steiner
said that hed break his leg again when they meet next. Tiny pyro went
off with Steiner posing on the ramp. Then, for no reason at all, Steiner came
back out to the ring, and Sid got on the mic again and stuttered on every
word and basically set up a feud for the belt I guess. The PPV went off the
air with the crowd dead, and no music playing, and nothing from the commentators.
Notes:
Did I mention the production was terrible? The main event, and the cruiserweight
and cage matches saved this PPV from being totally unwatchable. Even with
those 3 matches which were quite good (and Im sure Styles and Lynn have
put on much better), I wasted another $25 on this company. They gave hardly
zero time to the cruiserweights (apart from the 3rd match), and more time
to people like Bagwell. Steiner looked really
good, no signs of an injured leg as he worked a good 10 minute plus match
and took quite a few good bumps. The crowd was totally dead for most of the
night. If youre wondering if you should buy this PPV on impulse, I give
this a thumbs down and suggest not to. I havent seen the February PPV
they did, but it sounded better than this one. Oh yeah, it was only just over
2
hours long too. Actually, in one way, that was probably a good thing
