Test Taking Strategies for Math

Strategies:

Kids love trying to stump their own friends and while building confidence in word problem skills (Duke, 2010). According to SAINT LOUIS UNIVERSITY (2010), "Do the problems in the order that suits you! Start with the problems that you know for sure you can do. This builds confidence and means you don't miss any sure points just because you run out of time” (Taking a Math Test, para. 16). Mental math encourages students to use their natural thinking ability to solve math problems, it can assist in quickly answering questions. Math is often a subject that stumps students on tests, it is important to relate as many skills possible to real life experiences to make the learning meaningful. Students will retain more information if they feel connected.
