A young man was waiting in the high-rise apartment of his new girlfriend waiting as she finished getting ready for their date and he decided to play with her frisky little dog. He began throwing the ball for the dog and accidentally bounced it out and over the balcony, without a thought the dog followed. The man had no idea what to do or say when his date came out of the bathroom ready to go, she didn't seem to notice the dog's absence. At dinner the man commented "You know, your dog seemed a little depressed this evening."
Not too many movies actually feature this legend although it did appear in: There's Something About Mary.
And is also a constant running joke on Spin City, Rags (Carter's dog) is like a millions years old and trying to kill himself in several ways: licking electrical sockets, he rolled himself in a firelog wrapper and crawled into a fire, tried jumping out windows but, is stopped in the nick of time. In one of the funnier gags Carter is having a killer hangover and says he wishes he could just jump out the window. Rags looks at him and says: "Do it." When Carter looks at the dog, Rags says: "And for the love of God take me with you."-JLB
