Tap tap version 1:
A woman and her boyfriend were on their way home from somewhere (not important) one night, and suddenly his car ran out of gas. It was about one in the morning and they were completely alone in the middle of the nowhere.
The guy stepped out of the car, saying comfortingly to his girlfriend, "Don't worry, I'll be right back. I'm just going to go out for some help. Lock the doors, though."
She locked the doors and sat restlessly, waiting for her boyfriend to come back. Suddenly, she hears a tap, tap sound on the car window.Then sees a shadow fall across her lap. She looks up to see... not her boyfriend, but a strange, crazed looking man. He is swinging something in his right hand.
He sticks his face close to the window and slowly pulls up his right hand. In it is her boyfriend's decapitated head, twisted horribly in pain and shock. She shuts her eyes in horror and tries to make the image go away. When she opens her eyes, the man is still there, grinning psychotically. He slowly lifts his left hand, and he is holding her boyfriend's keys. To the car.
Tap tap version 2:(This is the one seen in Urban Legend)
A girl and her boyfriend are making out in his car. They had parked in the woods so no one would see them. When they were done, the boy got out to pee and the girl waited for him in the safety of the car.
After waiting five minutes, the girl got out of the car to look for her boyfriend. Suddenly, she sees a man in the shadows. Scared, she gets back in the car to drive away, when she hears a very faint squeak... squeak... squeak...
This continued a few seconds until the girl decided she had no choice but to drive off. She hit the gas as hard as possible but couldn't go anywhere, because someone had tied a rope from the bumper of the car to a nearby tree.
Well, the girl slams on the gas again and then hears a loud scream. She gets out of the car and realizes that her boyfriend is hanging from the tree. The squeaky noises were his shoes slightly scraping across the top of the car!!!
HEAD ON A STICK versions:
One night a young couple were driving home from a party. they didn't feel like heading straight home so the boyfriend said "Lets go for a drive so we can spend some time alone together." His girlfriend agreed so they set off down a lonely country road and were soon far away from any houses and got deeper into remote bushland. Suddenly the car hit a log fallen across the middle of the road. The couple were startled when the car jolted to a stop, they had not seen the log in time. The boyfriend said "I'd better take a look to see if theres any damage", the girlfriend shivered with apprehension as it was so dark outside. "Be careful" she murmured.
After a while the boyfriend came around to the window. "The log we hit has damaged the car badly and we wont be able to drive it . I will need some help to fix it. I thought I saw a light on a few miles back so I will go and see if I can get help."
"No its too dangerous." said his girlfriend. "Don't worry I'll be fine, anyway we have no choice ". The girl said, "I'm coming with you". "No you stay here and lock all the doors and no matter what, promise me you wont get out of the car".The girl felt very fearful but agreed to do as he said.
More than an hour passed and the boyfriend had not returned. The girl began to worry and thought about getting out to go look for her boyfriend. Then she remembered the promise she made to him and decided to wait a bit longer. She put on the radio to try and take her mind off the rising fear she felt. The only station she could pick up was a was a boring local country station. She listened to a few songs and then a news broadcast came on. There was a story about an escapee form a local lunatic asylum. People were warned to lock all their doors as this deranged escapee was considered extremely dangerous. The girl became even more fearful but decided to stay put and wait for her boyfriend. She must have dozed off for she was awoken by a loud "tap tap tap" on the roof of the car. Startled she looked out the windows to see if it was her boyfriend returned, but she could see nothing but darkness. The sound came again tap....... tap.......... tap, and she wondered what could be causing it?. Too fearful from the events which had passed that evening she could not bring herself to get out to see what it was. The noise continued tap......... tap......... tap, this went on for some time.
Suddenly she was blinded by harsh light and could see headlights shining through the front windscreen. She hesitated wondering if it was safe to get out when she heard a voice over a megaphone 'You in the car, I want you to listen very carefully. I want you to slowly get out of the car and come toward me. I am a police officer and it is very important that you do exactly what I say. You are in danger. You must get out of the car immediately and slowly walk over here but whatever you do don't turn around and don't look back!" She heard the noise again tap........... tap.......... tap. Shaking with terror she slowly opened the car door . She climbed out of the car, the policeman said "that's it, now walk towards me without any sudden movement and remember whatever you do don't look back!" She quickened her pace as she got closer to the police car and as she almost reached the officer she couldn't help herself and turned around. There on the roof of the car was a bent over figure of a man holding a stick, on the end of the stick she saw to her great horror her boyfriends severed head, the figure was banging it on the roof tap............ tap............. tap.
A very short version:
It has the two college kids making out in the back seat of their car on a lonely deserted road. When they go to start the car it wont start. The guy goes for help whilst the girl stays behind. She falls asleep and is woken by the scraping of branches on the car roof. The only thing is - it's not branches, it's the mangled body of her boyfriend.
An odd version:
Another version I have heard is that the girl who is waiting in the car hears a tap-tap-tap of (1) water dripping on the hood, but it's not raining or (2) a scraping and when the police show up and tell her to get out and not turn around, which of course she does, she sees her boyfriend has (1) hung himself from a branch above the car or (2) has been hung and mutilated. the water sound would be the boyfriends bladder having given way after death, the scraping would be the tips of his shoes on the top of the car.
Ghost version:
One night a married couple were riding down a dirt road when they ran out of gas. Well the man being a man told the woman to stay in the car and he was going to go get gas. Well the woman fell asleep hours later she woke to find that the outside of the car and all around was very foggy. She saw a lantern float across the front of the car. She didn't think anything about it and fell back to sleep. Hours later again she woke to hear a thud and she saw blood go down the front of the car. When they found the car in the morning the girl was all right but she had gone crazy. They found her husbands head next to the car and the body on the hood of the car.
The story goes that one night an old man carrying a lantern and killed the man and the person did not come to justice. Every night at 12:00 midnight the ghost of the old man comes across the road with the lantern looking for the person who killed him. If you are on monkey road at midnight and you get out of your car they will find you in the morning with your head cut off. Apparently if you run over the ghost of the old man and keep on going you will be alright.
Prom version:
This is a version found in some scary story book.
It's Prom night and Sarah and Josh had had a great time and now they were on their way to an after-prom party. On the way there the limo Josh had rented ran out of gas. He realized that the gas guage was broken. Then he had the idea to go see if there was a gas can in the trunk. He came back emptied handed. He told Sarah that he'd have to go find a gas station.Then Sarah screamed, "You can't lave me here alone. Haven't you heard about the loose maniac?" Josh said,"Those reports are exaggerated and you'll be safe here, in the car."
Sarah was worried they'd miss the party and Josh said they couldn't get there without gas. He said there was a service station a few miles back and that he'd run there and get a ride back. Sarah asked him not to leave because she was scared.
Josh went and got a blanket and Told Sarah to lie down in the back of the car with the blanket over her and to keep the doors locked. Sarah asked how'd she know it was him when he came back. He said he'd knock three times on the hood of the car.He left and Sarah was left alone.
According to the clock it was 1:00am. Sarah looked out the window and realized there were no houses around and that the moon wasn't out. The limo was under a huge tree and on the other side of the road was an open field. After a little while she slowly drifted to sleep.
THUMP. Sarah awoke frightened and thought it must be Josh. THUMP,THUMP. She pulled the blanket off her head.THUMP,THUMP. Suddenly she was very scared and she became paralyzed. She remembered Josh had said three knocks. She wondered if she sholud call his name. But what if it wasn't him? She lay perfectly still.
THUMP,THUMP...THUMP...THUMP. She knew it wasn't Josh. She wondered if it could be the escaped maniac knocking on the hood. It seemed as if the thumping continued for hours. Her muscles were killing her from being so tense and she wanted to scream but she didn't dare move. Then she heard another car approaching. It stopped behind her. There was a bright light being passed over the car. She tried to scream but her throat was to dry. Then over a loudspeaker she heard"This is the police. Is anyone in there?" She sat up and was blinded by the light. The cop asked her if she was ok and she nodded. They told her to get out of the car and to walk directly toward the light and to not look behind her no matter what.
She unlocked the door and got out. Slowly, she walked toward the light wondering why they didn't want her to turn around. She couldn't take it any longer. She looked at the limo and froze. The scream she'd been holding back finally came out.
Above the limo was Josh,hanging from a noose tied to the tree. His legs were dangling and swaying in the breeze. His feet kept hitting the hood of the car.THUMP,THUMP.
