The Owl
Stillness, laying awake
as I hear the owl
that is in the distance calls
to the midnight hour.

I look to the heavens
and feel calm, peace from within
me flows, as I sense
the darkness, and herein

I know that it is sadly
the case, that I must say
that as the owl calls
through the night, a new day

brings no new beginnings.
For as I see with my eyes,
I know that others cannot,
so I say my goodbyes

to the fleeing forest,
which will never return.
A tear wells in my eye, as
I see that they never learn

of the woos that they
cause.  For the bird isn't lying,
and from the senseless night,
I ever hear the owl crying.
