Pizza, as we think of it today, didn't exist until like 1889, and was pretty much unknown in America until the early 1900s. In fact, it didn't become at all common until at least the 1940s, so this is another anachronism. Not just the existence of a pizzeria in and of itself, but the styles of pizzas Vinny cooks probably didn't even exist in Italy til much later. Also, the name of his pizzeria is a play on Toys "R" Us, which didn't exist as such until 1957 (and yes, the sign on Vinny's pizzeria actually has a backward "R").
